Today Is Not Mine

THE STORY:

Besides being the most hard rock song I’ve ever written, “Today is Not Mine” is probably one of the most honest I’ve written. This is a demo track I recorded in 2008. It’s all about the fact that we’re never really satisfied, especially here in America. We have so much yet sometimes we give so little.

We constantly try to be like other people. This is something I was struggling with back in 2008 and this is still something I struggle with. We wish we had more money, power, friends and status. Even when we say we don’t want those things we still wrestle with the tension on a daily basis.

LYRICS

TODAY IS NOT MINE
Words and Music by Jimmy Roman

Someday you will feel
It’s appropriate to kneel
At the coos of indecision
To the gods of trends and appeal

You wish you looked like her
And you wanna be like him

It’s not easy to get over
When all you want is something real
Cause today is not mine

What does it mean today?
Even though I pray
A thousand times for answers
A thousand times for grace

All we want is more
All we want is more
All we want is more
All we want is more

But today is not mine
Even if I tried
To negotiate another rhythm and rhyme
I will settle for less
Even if it means more
A modest helping of the simple and ignored

Teach my hands to know
The things I should forego

But today is not mine
Even if I tried
To negotiate another rhythm and rhyme

But today is not mine
Even if I tried
To negotiate another rhythm and rhyme
I will settle for less
Even if it means more
A modest helping of the simple and ignored
